He took lessons from Mary Lou Williams and Dick Hyman and has played with such jazz notables as Ernie Carson, Larry Conger, Jackie Coon, Eddie Erickson, Bob Haggart, Dan Barrett, Rick Fay, Chuck Hedges, Randy Sandke, Jake Hannah, Ken Peplowsi, and Rebecca Kilgore. He has appeared in many jazz festivals and he has recorded on several CDs, some of which are shown on this site. His work has been mentioned in the Los Angeles Times. He played for the Tar River Swing Band, the Salty Dog Dixieland Band and the Dick Gable AllStars for many years. He is now the regular piano player for The Casablanca Orchestra, A Touch of Dixie and the Buck Creek Jazz Band. He has played in jazz festivals that featured such musicans as Dave Frishberg, Howard Alden, John Allred, Kenny Davern, Milt Jackson, Tommy Newsom, George Masso, Joe Ascone, Butch Miles, John Seridan and Ralph Sutton. In the Jazz Scene section of the August, 1992 Los Angeles Times, Scott Yansow reviews the CD: 1991 TRIANGLE JAZZ PARTY BOYS. In it he says "Most impressive is pianist Dave McAllister, particulaly on Fat's Waller's "Lookin' Good,But Feelin' Bad." |
