David's Music Background:

David F. McAllister has played with swing, rock, and traditional jazz bands for over 50 years. He studied with Mary Lou Williams and Dick Hyman and has played with such jazz notables as Ernie Carson, Larry Conger, Jackie Coon, Eddie Erickson, Bob Haggart, Dan Barrett, Rick Fay, Chuck Hedges, Randy Sandke, Jake Hannah, Ken Peplowsi, and Rebecca Kilgore. He has appeared in many jazz festivals and he has recorded on several CDs, some of which are shown on this site. A Los Angeles Times reviewer has this to say: Most impressive is pianist Dave McAllister, particularly on Fat's Waller's "Lookin' Good, But Feelin' Bad."

He played for the Tar River Swing Band, the Salty Dog Dixieland Band, and the Dick Gable AllStars where he got his nickname "Doctor Dave". He is now the regular piano player for A Touch of Dixie, and the Buck Creek Jazz Band. He is the leader of the quartet Capital Jazz

He has played in jazz festivals that featured such musicans as Dave Frishberg, Howard Alden, John Allred, Kenny Davern, Milt Jackson, Tommy Newsom, George Masso, Joe Ascone, Butch Miles, John Sheridan, and Ralph Sutton.

He is on the board of the Triangle Traditional Jazz Society which is dedicated to the preservation of traditional or dixieland jazz.
