Nancy McAllister, President and Director of Acquisitions, in 1994 with her husband David F. McAllister established C&M Online Media, Inc. and Boson Books.

She was drawn to online publishing because of her history in print publishing. How would online publishing be different from print publishing? What would be the inherent processes for acquisition and editing? For book preparation and distribution? What would be the additional possibilities for digitized text and images? Nancy was the managing editor of Postmodern Culture, the first online journal in the humanities. PMC was published on the Internet before the availability of the World Wide Web.

In 1976, as a celebration of the bicentennial, Nancy began The New South Company to publish the work of a group of Southern poets. The New South Company became a vehicle for publishing several books by Southern authors. Before that she edited both print and film at the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta.

Nancy received the M.F.A from the writing school at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. She has published poetry and fiction. She taught writing at UNC-Charlotte and at North Carolina State University. Also at NCSU, she joined a print publishing project as the production and rights chief. The project wrote and published social studies books for the North Carolina Public Schools, eventually partnering with Macmillan.

On the subject of online publishing, Nancy McAllister has contributed to two papers presented at SIGDOC a division of the Association for Computing (ACM). She participated in a panel discussion sponsored by the Conference for Entrepreneurial Development and a presentation to writers at Francis Marion University. She gave a featured presentation at Barnes & Noble. Additionally she has presented a paper at NIST EBOOK '01 and contributed to an ISTAS '02 paper.
