David F. McAllister, is Professor Emeritus of Computer Science at North Carolina State University, where he taught and specialized in computer graphics, speech processing, and multimedia. He has also researched and written in the areas of performance evaluation, numerical analysis, software reliability, and optimization. His current research in the field of computer science is stereo imaging. He continues to direct Ph.D. students at NCSU.

He received the B.S. in mathematics from UNC, Chapel Hill, the M.S. in mathematics from Purdue University, and the Ph.D. in computer science from UNC, Chapel Hill. David McAllister has published over one hundred research papers and book chapters and has edited or co-authored two books: one published by Princeton University Press on stereo computer graphics and the other by Prentice-Hall on discrete mathematics.
